PAWLISA PROJECT: Training Totals, June 2019
I’m still tired….that’s been the theme this month. After several trips between NYC and LA, a few road trips and one hell of a race, my body started to fight back with a sinus issue that nagged me for weeks. So what do you do? You keep going. Total training numbers dipped a little bit due to tapering for my race in San Francisco and the post-race recovery week which left me a little ill and weak. My overall training volume continues to increase each week as I creep closer to Maryland Ironman in September. This increased workload will require me to recover properly in order to keep up and continue to grow. Easier said than done but like always, I’m trying new things and making adjustments as needed. Ironman is supposed to be hard, otherwise, everyone would be one!
JUNE TOTALS
JUNE TOTALS:
RUN: 88.44 miles
BIKE: 421.29 miles
SWIM: 26,727 yards
Changes: Bike Adjustments and Onboard Nutrition
-I’m making small adjustments to my bike to improve my overall comfort as my rides continue to get longer and longer. Mostly playing with the aero bars for the perfect fit.
-Testing out my onboard bike nutrition for the longer rides and optimizing the best fuel source for extended rides. I’m testing out S Fuels as my liquid source of fuel and making my own solid food based nutrition (work in progress)
-Experimenting with some Hydrogen water tablets for pre/post workout.
-Never drive home the same day after completing a race again! I made the mistake of driving home from SF to LA after my race. I sat in a car for 7hrs…not good for the body. Noted!
Growth Areas: Swimming and Running
-I’m doing regular 2000-3000 plus yards in the pool weekly without issue and my average per 100 is getting faster by 5-10 seconds.
-My running intervals have been very challenging but I have been able to complete them all as planned. Running at 10 plus mph for upwards of 2-5 minutes.
Areas for Improvement: Sleep and Recovery, Bike power.
-My sleep has been horrible again. Maybe from the travel or the rise in temperatures but my Oura ring data does not look that good.
-More massages. I need to do this at least every two weeks to help with soreness.
What’s next: On July 21 I will compete for the third time, in the NYC Triathlon. In my home town of Manhattan. This race is great for me because it’s local and I can walk to the start from my apartment! You can’t beat that. I’m going for the top 50 again in my age group, wish me luck! Where there's a will, there's a way!
Thank you,
Greg Pawlisa
