MAY TOTALS

I’m tired, I’m hungry and keep going back for more! My life now consist of the following, training, eating, sleeping and repeat, 7 days a week! It’s become my lifestyle and I’m loving it. I competed in the St. George Half Ironman on May 4th. This was a hell of a race! I detailed it here…My 80/20 training program paid off and I got a new PR on a 70.3 course! I went right back into training after one day off for travel/recovery and have not stopped since.

I have experienced some fatigue this month, mainly due to poor sleep which I’m still trying to perfect. I recently purchased the Oura Ring and have been tracking my sleep data for a few weeks. Once I get a months worth of data I’ll post a review of the product. I’m still traveling between LA and NY, so my training scheduled needs to be planned out perfectly so I don’t miss a beat. On June 9th I compete in the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon in San Fransisco. I’m looking to finish near the top of my age group, wish me luck!

MAY TOTALS:

RUN: 81.48 miles

BIKE: 449.28 miles

SWIM: 31,917 yards

Changes: Fixing my breathing techniques while swimming.

-Controlling my food intake by cooking at home for 95% of all my meals. I’m eating 99.99% organic, whole foods and consuming more calories this month.

-I was also in a calorie deficit for a while and had to eat more to maintain my weight and energy levels…this is fun because I Love food! I’m often burn over 4,000 calories a day and needed eat at least that to maintain my weight. I added an extra scoop of protein powder to my shakes, consume a few more snacks like, nut butters, nuts, yogurt or jerky throughout the day to keep the calories coming in.

-Measuring my sleep data with the Oura Ring to optimize my recovery.

Growth Areas: My overall endurance is improving greatly. A 1hr bike ride feels like a warm-up now while a 13mi run is just a regular thing for me now.

-I was having a lot of sinus issues after my swim days because I was inhaling too much water through my nose. I’ve since worked on improving my breathing techniques and look to become more effective as the month progresses.

Areas for Improvement: I need to keep increasing my average output on the bike. My goal is to average 200 watts this month on my rides.

-Improve my average 100yd swim speed. I want it in the 1:40’s.

-Stretching, foam rolling and sauna more consistently to improve my recovery.

What’s next: On June 9th I compete in the challenging Escape From Alcatraz triathlon in San Francisco. The swim is a 1.5 mile battle through cold, choppy, shark-infested waters! The overall distance is shorter than a Half Ironman so I am looking to really push myself and finish with a new PR! Wish me luck! Stay Hard!

Thank you,

Greg Pawlisa
